The Shure R189B is specifically designed for use with Shure Microflex (MX) series gooseneck and overhead microphones. It is not a universal fit; always verify your microphone model is part of the MX family before purchase.
This mini-shotgun cartridge provides a more directional (lobar) pickup pattern, which is narrower than standard cardioid capsules. This helps to reject sound from the sides and rear, focusing on the sound source directly in front of the mic, which is ideal for noisy environments.
Installation is straightforward. Simply power down the microphone system, carefully unscrew the existing cartridge from the gooseneck or overhead mount, and then screw on the new R189B cartridge until it is finger-tight. No special tools are required.
The R189B operates on the 48V phantom power supplied by the microphone body it is attached to. No separate batteries or power supplies are needed for the cartridge itself.
